UK UPA Event; Accessibility - Assistive Technologies Explored - Thursday 24th September 2009

An understanding of the role that assistive technology plays in helping disabled users to access information both online and offline is vital for usability professionals. This month’s UPA event will provide an opportunity to find out more about the assistive technology used daily by millions of British people.

Robin Christopherson, Head of Accessibility Services at AbilityNet, will discuss and demonstrate several assistive technologies and show why it is important to consider accessibility when designing interactive products. In addition, Thomas Fiddian, Senior Designer at RNID, will discuss product development considerations for the needs of the Deaf community and people with hearing impairment.

As well as the main speakers, several assistive technology suppliers (including Sight & Sound and Tech Ready) will attend the event providing an opportunity for members to experience some of the assistive technology first hand.
