London: Design of mobile devices for police forces (Thursday, 11 August)

Speakers: Paul Hampton and Julia Higgins of Conspicuity Innovate Ltd.

Police officers have numerous demands on their time, demands which often require them to work in the police station using desktop based IT solutions. This requirement has for many years negatively impacted on officers’ abilities to meet the public demand for visible policing.

Police forces around the world are trying to address this imbalance by exploring the potential of mobile solutions to keep officers out on the streets for longer. This talk will highlight the issues associated with designing and implementing mobile IT systems within the police and in so doing will draw upon the experience of the presenters in developing a ‘briefing’ system for PDA.

The talk will interest usability practitioners and public sector project managers, and really anyone who is interested in understanding the issues involved when defining, designing and successfully implementing new mobile IT systems.
