London: Beyond the User Requirement (Wednesday 23 March)
Speaker: Ian F Alexander
Beyond the User Requirement - how to use scenarios to get beyond the functional requirements to what really needs to be developed, using the example of a tube train’s Auto-Driver Box.
Is it really enough just to write User Requirements and to throw them over the wall to the developers? It doesn’t sound likely to work. Rather than arguing in vague terms, in this talk Ian will describe what actually happened on a project, and how a set of simple practical techniques discovered a series of ‘requirements’ of very different kinds.
The project was to develop a replacement control box for a train. It turned out to be a very different kind of problem from the simple like-for-like replacement that some people imagined.
