Scottish UPA: The power of hindsight (Monday 24th January 2005)
When application prototyping through simulation and usability analysis combine. Jonathan Kerr, VeriSIM
According to Forrester Research the cost of design change during Project Scoping is roughly 30 times cheaper than design change during implementation. Combine that with the Standish Group's research suggesting that on average 82% of all IT projects are delivered late and that only 52% of the originally required features and functions make it into the final released application, it becomes clear that things have got to change. Analysts agree that these problems stem from: Lack of user input, Incomplete Requirements and Specification, Changing Requirements and Specifications and Usability Analysis too late in the lifecycle.
Jonathan Kerr, Chief Marketing Officer of VeriSIM, will talk about how VeriSIM work with major Financial Services companies to rapidly produce fully functional prototypes of new applications in order deliver usable applications on time and on budget. These simulations allow the design team to incorporate usability and accessibility design analysis and full user/customer testing before a line of 'live' code is cut. Once theprototype has been tested and approved it then becomes and the living functional specification 'build guide' during the development lifecycle reducing change control considerably.
